We all know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which offers us an opportunity to come together to remember those we’ve lost and recognize and lend support to those who are suffering from this terrible disease today. Communities and organizations all across the nation coordinate activities, fairs, runs, walks, charity drives, and other campaigns to raise money, time, and effort from passionate donors, patients, and caregivers.
Here in St. Augustine, Jacksonville, and Ocala, there are a handful of worthy events we wanted to share with our readers. We hope you’ll find time to get involved and find something that interests you and your family this month.
Remember, spreading the word about the dangers of breast cancer to those who are susceptible, and spending time to comfort and speak with those who are diagnosed is what this month is all about. But without the generosity of financial donors, research to further prevent and cure cancer isn’t possible.

Breast Cancer Survivor Portraits
St. Augustine Record staff arts and entertainment editor Renee Unsworth wants to hear your survival story and take your family portrait! To be included, simply email Renee at email@example.com with your name, the date and time you would like to have your photo taken, and who you would like to bring with you to be included in the photo.
The photo session will take place on October 15-16th, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days at the offices of the St. Augustine Record, located at One News Place, on the corner of State Roads 312 and 207.
2012 Making Strides Against Breast Cacncer 5k Walk
Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this Saturday? Head on down to Treaty Oak Park at 1123 Prudential Drive in Jacksonville to support the American Cancer Society’s signature North Florida fundraising event. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.

Open Invitation to the breast cancer support group of st. augustine
The mission of the Breast Cancer Support Group of St. Augustine is to give help, comfort, and friendship to breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families.
The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in Suite 1010 at the Flagler Hospital.
Young Survivors Group
Meeting at the Women’s Center of Jacksonville, located at 5644 Colcord Ave in Jacksonville on Monday, October 15th, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., this group of vibrant women under 45 brings together those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer to lift each other up and develop friends and support.
Scrapbooking for Breast Cancer
A fun and unique fundraising event for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will take place on October 19th, 2012 at 6 p.m. celebrating scrapbooking, food, and drinks. Each ticket is just $5 and food and drink are available for another $5.

Susan G. Komen North Florida Walk for Awareness
The Susan G. Komen North Florida Walk for Awareness will be taking place on Sunday, October 21st, 2012 at 9 a.m. The 2K is open to all participants in the Mandarin area departing from the Komen North Florida offices located at 2950 Halcyon Lane #501, Jacksonville, FL, 32223.
